Singin’ in the Rain

Filled with every memorable moment from the film and a downpour of unforgettable songs.

Singin’ in the Rain has all the makings of a Tinseltown tabloid headline – the starlet, the leading man and a love affair that could change lives and make or break careers!

In silent movies, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a hot item but, behind the scenes, things aren’t always as they appear on the big screen! Nick Cave - Until

Until is American artist Nick Cave’s most ambitious project to date. Comprised of thousands of found objects which together make us feel as if we have entered a rich sensory tapestry and stepped directly inside the belly of one of Cave’s iconic Soundsuits.

Nick Cave’s first Soundsuit, made out of twigs, was a direct response to the Rodney King beating, a visual image about social justice that was both brutal and empowering. Just as the violence around the Rodney King beating was the impetus to Cave’s early work, the death of men such as Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, and Michael Brown drives his new imagery for Until. For Cave’s Carriageworks installation, Until — a play on the phrase ‘innocent until proven guilty’, or in this case ‘guilty until proven innocent’  he addresses issues of gun violence, gun control policy, race relations, and gender politics in America and its resonance across the world.

Cave has come to see himself as a messenger, endeavouring to coalesce communities and discuss important issues. ‘I view this work as an elaborate community forum, as much as a work of sculpture,’ notes Cave. As such Until at Carriageworks will become a stage for international and Australian artists who will create and present work and lead discussions in partnership with Sydney communities.

West Side Story - Handa Opera On Sydney Harbour

Tonight, tonight the world is wild and bright. Going mad, shooting sparks into space!

West Side Story exploded onto Broadway in 1957 in a sensational storm of exuberant dance and wistful romance. It was a phenomenon that never faded, “an incandescent piece of work” (The New York Times).

The landmark musical combined four of the biggest talents on Broadway: Leonard Bernstein’s sensational score, Jerome Robbins’ explosive choreography, Arthur Laurent’s powerful book and newcomer Stephen Sondheim’s perfect lyrics.

In 2019, West Side Story takes the iconic stage at Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour. Raise a glass as the sun sets and drink in the view as you share a meal in one of the pop-up bars and restaurants on site. Then sit back to enjoy the enthralling show, complete with live orchestra hidden beneath the dramatic stage and fireworks in the balmy night air.

Encounter the wildness of youth and ecstasy of love as this modern day Romeo and Juliet unfolds under a starlit sky.

On the mean streets of New York's West Side, two rival gangs strut their stuff. But when a Jet falls for a Shark, the stage is set for a rumble. Their wistful love story is studded with infectious songs including 'Somewhere', 'Maria', 'I Feel Pretty', 'America', 'Cool' and of course, 'Tonight'.

As the star-crossed lovers, Maria and Tony, homegrown stars Alexander Lewis and Julie Lea Goodwin reprise the sizzling chemistry of their performances together in The Merry Widow and The Phantom of the Opera.

An all-singing, all-dancing supporting cast takes on Bernstein’s brilliant score and Jerome Robbins’ original electrifying choreography.

Renowned director Francesca Zambello teams up with Brian Thomson and Jennifer Irwin to create a brand new production for the harbour-top stage.

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour is set in what is easily Sydney’s most spectacular spot, offering an unusual perspective on the bright lights of the city and its most famous icons. The stage is constructed out over the water, but for the audience the show’s backdrop also includes the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge, city skyscrapers and the twinkling stars overhead.

You'll taste the best of Sydney in a single night out: food, fireworks, singing and spectacle under the stars.
