Monty Python's Spamalot

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, SPAMALOT re-tells the legend of King Arthur & his Knights of the Round Table. Guided by the fabulous belting diva The Lady of the Lake, the knights battle their way past various cows, killer rabbits, & French people in pursuit of claiming the legendary Grail.

Monty Python’s SPAMALOT was a smash hit in both New York & London, & won the Tony Award for Best Musical. Now the show comes to Sydney for the very first time, in a production that re-defines the word ‘epic’. Really, really re-defines it.

A diverse, cross-gender cast of heroic/foolish actors (& their assistant stage manager) embrace the satirical, home-made spirit of the original movie & the Monty Python TV series, enlisting the help of some carefully-chosen backdrops, a CD player, & – when all else fails – a large dose of meta-theatrical humour. From the minds of the director & choreographer of 2017’s smash-hit Calamity Jane – audiences should hold on tight, expect the unexpected, & Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

May Gibbs Exhibition

In December 1916, the first of May Gibbs ever-popular bush baby books were published, featuring her gentle but mischievous gumnut and gum blossom babies. The books were an immediate success and more titles quickly followed, including, in 1918, the adventures of the irrepressible brothers Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.

A century on, this display pays tribute to the work of this celebrated Australian children’s book author, illustrator and early environmentalist. It introduces some of her best known and loved characters and stories, and, drawing on her personal archive, explores her working process and life.

The adventures of May Gibbs’ bush babies will be on show at Sutherland Library in a display of Gibbs’ work, drawn from the State Library of NSW collection.

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the publication of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, the much-loved Australian classic.

Literary speaker Walter Mason discusses May Gibbs, her life, works and best known characters: the gumnut babies.

West Side Story - Handa Opera On Sydney Harbour

Tonight, tonight the world is wild and bright. Going mad, shooting sparks into space!

West Side Story exploded onto Broadway in 1957 in a sensational storm of exuberant dance and wistful romance. It was a phenomenon that never faded, “an incandescent piece of work” (The New York Times).

The landmark musical combined four of the biggest talents on Broadway: Leonard Bernstein’s sensational score, Jerome Robbins’ explosive choreography, Arthur Laurent’s powerful book and newcomer Stephen Sondheim’s perfect lyrics.

In 2019, West Side Story takes the iconic stage at Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour. Raise a glass as the sun sets and drink in the view as you share a meal in one of the pop-up bars and restaurants on site. Then sit back to enjoy the enthralling show, complete with live orchestra hidden beneath the dramatic stage and fireworks in the balmy night air.

Encounter the wildness of youth and ecstasy of love as this modern day Romeo and Juliet unfolds under a starlit sky.

On the mean streets of New York's West Side, two rival gangs strut their stuff. But when a Jet falls for a Shark, the stage is set for a rumble. Their wistful love story is studded with infectious songs including 'Somewhere', 'Maria', 'I Feel Pretty', 'America', 'Cool' and of course, 'Tonight'.

As the star-crossed lovers, Maria and Tony, homegrown stars Alexander Lewis and Julie Lea Goodwin reprise the sizzling chemistry of their performances together in The Merry Widow and The Phantom of the Opera.

An all-singing, all-dancing supporting cast takes on Bernstein’s brilliant score and Jerome Robbins’ original electrifying choreography.

Renowned director Francesca Zambello teams up with Brian Thomson and Jennifer Irwin to create a brand new production for the harbour-top stage.

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour is set in what is easily Sydney’s most spectacular spot, offering an unusual perspective on the bright lights of the city and its most famous icons. The stage is constructed out over the water, but for the audience the show’s backdrop also includes the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge, city skyscrapers and the twinkling stars overhead.

You'll taste the best of Sydney in a single night out: food, fireworks, singing and spectacle under the stars.

Senior Moments

Senior Moments is a comedy revue about old people and the young people they have to deal with, with sketches and songs and performers who are old enough to know better, all making wicked fun of the trials and tribulations of growing old disgracefully.

Gold Logie winner John Wood (Blue HeelersRafferty’s Rules)Play School icon Benita Collings, master satirist Max Gillies (The Gillies Report) with former Channel 9 Midday maestro Geoff Harvey on piano, all combine to deliver a somewhat silly show for otherwise sensible seniors.

The Miser

Wealthy skinflint, Harpagon is so cheap he’d rather bury his money in the backyard & steal oats from his horse before seeing a dollar spent.

Welcome to the world of The Miser, where passion & penny pinching go head to head in a ribald comedy of manners.

John Bell stars as the stingy, avaricious & obnoxious Harpagon, a money-lender who makes Ebenezer Scrooge look generous. This is a man who loves nothing more than his beloved cash — not even his own children.

With his eye on the prize — an inappropriately young bride who already has her sights set on his son — Harpagon is prepared to sacrifice his children & his dignity to win it all.

First performed in 1668, The Miser is the well-known satire by French playwright Molière, known for other classics such as Tartuffe & The Misanthrope.

Bell Shakespeare’s Founder, John Bell, will be directed by Artistic Director, Peter Evans, in this deliciously mean comedic Molière adaptation, exploring the depth of human greed, lust & manipulation.

Lano & Woodley: Fly

In the magnificent atmosphere of Spiegeltent Wollongong, Australia’s favourite double act will soar into our hearts with their much-anticipated reunion show. FLY has wowed critics and fans alike, bringing audiences to their feet night after night, scoring stellar reviews and bringing home the People’s Choice Award at the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

With uncontainable excitement, Colin (Lano) and Frank (Woodley) present an epic story – a tribute to the pioneers of flight, The Wright Brothers. No more mucking around, Colin and Frank have grown up and now it is time to make THEATRE. Although there is no reason whatsoever to think it will go as planned.

Masters of cunning reincorporation, hilarious put-downs, and the endless postponement of gags and payoffs, the childlike naivety of Lano and Woodley has universal appeal, with people of all ages delighting in their blockbuster shows.

Pre WWII Vintage Car & Show

The Sylvanvale Pre WWII Car Show, supported by Sutherland Shire Council & Cronulla Rotary, is one of Sutherland Shire’s largest & most popular community events on the annual calendar.

Featuring a spectacular array of more than 60 vintage cars, stalls & a free Sky Zone Kids Adventure area, it’s always a fantastic day out.

This year we are fundraising for a brand new project for children & young people with autism & other complex needs. For these young people, the world can be an extremely challenging environment & many experience anxiety.

The space will include quiet zones where children & young people can use calming strategies such as sitting with an iPad & listening to music. There will be areas for engaging in activities that spark interest, as well as sensory areas and places to connect with other young people through planned socialising.

The space will also run transition programs for school leavers & young adults with complex needs, supporting them to develop the skills necessary to transition out of a centre-based support into the community & work.

This project will provide a truly unique environment where young people who hear, see & feel the world differently can be comfortable, listened to & supported.

School of Rock: The Musical!

Andrew Lloyd Webber, the man who brought rock & romance to Broadway, is back with a new heart-stirring hit. School of Rock is a New York Times Critics' Pick & "an inspiring jolt of energy, joy & mad skillz!" (Entertainment Weekly). Reuters raves "Andrew Lloyd Webber has broadway rocking again!".

Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school's beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within. The New York Times says, "Be warned! There's a love story in this one."

Featuring 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber & all the original songs from the movie, this high-octane smash delivers face-melting guitar riffs & touching romance in equally awesome doses!
